Extension for DMWR Architects

An addition of 60 m sq to an existing bungalow, ( previously extended into the roof ) to create a granny flat.

Planning approved – never built .

The client needed a big extension , my concerns were the loss of light, building a big rear extension would ┬ámake the existing lounge very small and dark.I proposed large skylights to the flat roof extension- a common theme in my designs are skylights as we get a great quality of light and we don’t end up ruining the existing spaces to make new ones .

The other concern was getting planning approval, we were able to almost double the size of the house by using the line of the existing garage and the neighbors existing extension , by clearly marking the lines of these two structures on the proposal the planning officer was reassured that the neighbors would not be affected.

Although the extension was not built the planning approval created a valuable addition to the houses potential and resale value.
